Overview of the Organization

The Merchant Marines (also called American Maritime Officers or AMO) is a union comprising more than 4,000 members, who serve as officers on board US-flagged merchant and military sealift vessels. Their high-tech training facility including state of the art simulators is located in Florida.

Health care is provided to AMO members and their families through employer-paid benefits and the plan is self-managed. More than 12,000 people are covered by the AMO medical plan.
