Breast Cancer

Thank you, thank you and thank you. The functional genomic testing you recommended helped me understand more about the possible underlying causes of my ER+ (estrogen receptor positive) breast cancer. My oncologist did not have a clue how I could prevent its recurrence.

The genomic test (DetoxGenomic Panel) helped me psychologically feel that I could successful beat my breast cancer. I felt that I could work with my oncologist to help determine which drugs were best to fight the tumor and not kill me in the process.

I cannot thank you enough. I was terribly upset when I got my diagnosis. I did not what to do. My friends starting recommending I see the breast cancer specialists at the Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, MD Anderson Cancer Center and UCLA in Los Angeles. I went to see all of them; they recommended the same thing: chemo and radiation. But, you were the only person to educate me about what might have triggered the disease process by uncovering my genetic predispositions and how I might do something proactively to keep it from returning.

I felt like a number in a long assembly line sitting in my oncologist’s office, talking with the other women diagnosed with breast cancer. I could not help think that there ought to be a better way. Nearly everyone was getting the same treatment. I wanted to be treated like someone special; someone who would get a special protocol because I was different. Your genomic testing told me I was different. The test helped me put together my own treatment based on my genome; my oncologist was very impressed with information you were able to share with him to customized my treatments and the steps you recommended to prevent its recurrence.)

Shock, dismay, sadness and anger. Those were the feelings I had when my doctor told me the results of the MRI. I had breast cancer. How can this be happening to me? Breast cancer does not run in my family. I eat well; I exercise; I weigh the same as I did my last year in college. I did not want to be a statistic. I checked the American Cancer Society website, did my homework, read a lot. I wanted to a well-informed and knowledgeable patient. That is until I met with you and realized that my doctor and the resources I had checked out were giving me statistical recommendations based on population based studies rather than individual outcomes. The genomic testing you did really opened my eyes!! I gave me a different perspective on how I want to treat the disease that was unique to my genes. The test also helped me understand what I needed to be doing differently: specific supplements and lifestyle choices were just as important as diet, exercise and controlling body weight because my unique genomic information put me at risk for this disease.

Osteoporosis

I have told this repeatedly to my primary care physician and my urologist that had not Dr. Joe Veltmann recommended that the OsteoGenomic test, none of my medical doctors would have ever thought that I had osteoporosis. Thank God for this test; it identified that I had genomic predispositions for osteoporosis unbeknownst to my regular doctors. When my bone mineral density (BMD) test came back and it clearly showed that I had osteoporosis in my spine and my left hip, thank God, Dr. Veltmann knew exactly what to recommend (diet, supplements, lifestyle choices and drug) based on my genomic test and I did not have to spend months experimenting with conventional drugs to improve my BMD. I am happy to report that the BMD of my hip and spine has greatly improved; I have gained enough bone to be classified as osteopenia rather than osteoporotic and my risk of bone fracture has dropped substantially.

I am a post menopausal women and I was concerned about bone loss. I went to my doctor who ordered a bone mineral density test for me. Just as I thought, the test showed that I had the early stages of osteoporosis, he called osteopenia in both hips. He recommended that I begin taking Fosamax. I told him I did not want to take a drug to improve me bones. My husband heard about Dr. Veltmann’s work using functional genomic testing to identify risks for chronic diseases and to individualize treatments at his place of work. I contacted Dr. Veltmann and began the process to identify why I started to loose bone in my hips. While the genomic results were complicated, Dr. Veltmann walked me through it and recommended specific lifestyle choices, dietary supplements and calcitonin nasal spray. Within six months, my bone mineral density test showed a 28% improvement. My physician was shocked; instead of my bones having osteopenia, he said that my bones were like a 20-year old young woman. I have Dr. Veltmann to thank for returning my bones to normal.

General Health

Thank you, Dr. Veltmann for giving me the opportunity to "testify" about genomic testing and how it has benefited me. I am a 55 year old male, 6 feet, 2 inches and weigh about 200, my BMI is between 25 and 26, my cholesterol numbers are all within the reference range, my fasting blood sugar is excellent, I eat well and take a mouthful of supplements, I exercise regularly (play singles racquet ball 3 times a week for an hour and on the weekends go for a 20 mile bike ride in a little over an hour) and according to my primary care physician in really good shape.

I came to see you because I was interested in learning more about genetic susceptibilities to certain chronic diseases. My family tree said I was at risk for heart disease (my father passed away at 70 from an aortic aneurysm) and maybe cancer (my mother and her sisters all passed away from either breast, brain or kidney cancer). I have been in really good health all my life except for the occasional cold or flu. But I know that my physician is looking at my health through his lens (signs and symptoms) and I wanted a different perspective based on my genes. WOW!! What a perspective: I am at risk for cardiovascular disease, osteoporosis, environmental allergies and certain cancers.

The good news is that while these diseases were lurking in the background not yet expressing signs and symptoms my physician could detect, with your help I am confident that the subtle changes to my diet and nutritional supplements you recommended based on my genomic profile have and are making a difference in my health. You alerted my physician to test for homocysteine, an independent risk factor for heart disease, which was high but now is in the normal range; I needed a specific nutrient because unbeknownst to me until you did the test, I have a faulty gene that does not make an enzyme needed for folic acid metabolism and can lead to elevated homocysteine levels.
